Roles of Our Elders

NITHA’s primary identity is a First Nations health organization empowered by each Partners’ traditional languages, diverse cultures, values and knowledge. Maintaining the distinct and diverse knowledge systems of our Partners gives rise to traditional knowledge, which is vital for future well-being, sustainable development and for intellectual and cultural vitality. The social and physical environment is an integral part of NITHA’s partnership which is why NITHA maintains Elder presence. They provide their wisdom and prayers and guide us on our path to improve and enhance the quality of life for our Partner’s community members. They are present at all our training sessions, our Board of Chiefs and Executive Meetings and their teachings and ceremonies and the sharing of their diverse cultural teachings makes for a strong and knowledgeable support system for NITHA.
