Infection Contol

Infection Control Advisor

Infection Prevention and Control is an important component of health care that refers to policies, practices and procedures that help to prevent or minimize the risk of spreading infections in health care settings. Infection prevention and control measures protect clients (or residents/patients), employees and visitors.

The NITHA Infection Control Program focuses on the prevention of acquisition of infections in the NITHA partnership through the support of activities that break the chain of Infection. In order to support effective infection control in the Partners' organizations, the Advisor provides leadership, direction and vision in administration, clinical practice, education, and research. The Advisor`s roles are:

  • Leading the process of establishing and developing policies and procedures in infection prevention and control.
  • Education of health care workers and other staff.
  • Evaluation of products and procedures in various infection control practices particularly hand hygiene, environmental cleaning, equipment disinfection and sterilization. Research, data analysis and literature review are used to improve standards of practice.
  • Provision of infection prevention and control advice and support to the partners.
